ABOUT WINE TRAVEL CHILE

Chile’s Boutique Wine Travel Company specializes in tailor-made tours. Founded in 2002, we built our reputation by organizing hand-crafted and creative journeys through Chile’s 11 wine valleys.

Our bilingual team has years of experience in arranging, operating, and guiding high quality trips. The people who embark on our tours have the chance to travel outside of Santiago, visit beautiful wineries, enjoy great views, stunning scenery, regional cuisine, visit local villages, and taste the most delicious wines of each valley.

Wine Travel Chile is all about the passion and the spirit of sharing our wonderful country with others, its fantastic wine and food, luxury lodging, warm local people, Harvest activities and the innumerous opportunities for walking, biking and horseback riding.

YOUR WINE EXPERT GUIDE

Karen Gilchrist is a graduate of the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences of the Sorbonne University in Paris and the holder of diplomas in wine tasting, tourism and marketing from the London Chamber of Commerce and the British Industry Examinations Board, accomplishments during her eight years of residence in Europe. Her experience in connection with wine routes include in USA (California, Oregon, Long Island), France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile.

Karen organized Chile’s first ever Carmenere event, which was attended by the national and international press. In addition to guiding she is also a wine tourism consultant in Chile and abroad, and a freelance writer and columnist with a number of wine trade publications.

TOUR ITINERARY EXAMPLE ONE:

SANTIAGO – CHILEAN WINE VALLEYS - ATACAMA DESERT (12 DAYS)

Travel from Santiago, visiting beautiful wineries and tasting the most delicious wines in each of the wine valleys along the route. You will also enjoy great views of the Andes, beautiful scenery, and regional cuisine, while visiting local villages close to Santiago. After 6 days visiting the Chilean wine country we are going to take a journey to San Pedro de Atacama, located in the driest desert in the world.

The Program includes land transportation and transfers by bilingual driver/guide during the entire trip, bilingual wine expert, introduction to Chilean wines and wine regions, winery visits and premium wine tastings and city tour of Santiago. 

Day 1: Santiago
Meet and greet at the Santiago airport and private transfer to the Atton El Bosque Hotel, which is located in a charming and quiet residential neighbourhood close to restaurants and shops - Afternoon at leisure - In the evening, before our welcome dinner, we will go over the trip itinerary and have an introduction to the Chilean wine regions, given by a wine expert.

Day 2: Santiago Fruits Market and Organic Farm
After breakfast, depart from your hotel for a city tour through Santiago’s historic downtown and surrounding areas – visit one the most colourful and interesting food markets in Central Santiago. Your local guide will be showing you some of the distinctive vegetables and fruits of Chile - Continue to the town of Pirque (20 miles from Santiago), where we will visit an organic farm, ecological school and a 19th century villa. After a gourmet lunch, we will take a tour of the farm to see how their goat cheese is made; visit the organic vegetable garden and their beehives.
       
Day 3: Maipo Valley
Today we will visit the Maipo Valley where you will find Chile’s oldest and finest wineries. Many keep their cellars just as they were when first established in the 19th century. The red wine produced in this region is world renowned.

We arrive for a private tour and premium wine tasting at Viña Perez Cruz, an exclusive vineyard that produces top quality red wines. The winery it is characterized by its modern wine cellar inserted in the Chilean countryside, Wine Spirit magazine as “Winery of the Year” -  Continue to Viña Santa Rita. There we will visit the old cellar, the Andean Museum, which has a valuable collection of archeological pieces and pre-Columbian arts and crafts and enjoy a gourmet lunch at the winery’s restaurant accompanied by their wines.

Day 4:  Aconcagua Valley
Today we will visit Aconcagua Valley which is about 1 ½ hours ride from Santiago - We stop at Viña Errazuriz where we will have a leisurely walk through the vineyards; this is a fun and easy trail - After our walk, we will enjoy an interesting tour of the cellar facilities and a tasting of Errázuriz’s best wines follow by a private lunch at the winery.

Day 5: Casablanca and San Antonio Valleys
Today we will visit the Casablanca and San Antonio Valleys famous for its premium white wines and cool climate reds. Our first shop is at Viñedos Orgánicos Emiliana. This vineyard has developed organic and biodynamic agriculture in all of its grapevines. It is enclosed in a small valley, sharing it with wild animals and birds. We will also have a tour and a premium wine tasting - Continue to the San Antonio Valley where we will tour and enjoy a wine tasting at Viña Matetic, an exclusive winery that makes fine wines from 100% organic grapes. During our stay you will see a Chilean hacienda and a modern wine cellar inserted in the natural surroundings with spectacular views of the vineyards - Light lunch at Viña Matetic restaurant - Our last stop is at Viña Casa Marín, a beautiful and small winery; we will enjoy a private tour and a premium wine tasting.

Day 6: Colchagua Valley
Today we drive south, about a 2 ½ hours ride to Colchagua Valley. Similar to the Maipo Valley, this is a region where some of the best “big” red wines are produced, including Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot - We tour and enjoy a wine tasting at Viña Montes, where we can appreciate the panoramic view of the valley and The Andes mountains - Light lunch at Viña Montes. We next tour and a premium wine tasting at Viña Casa Lapostolle,  Wine Spectator magazine as “Wine of the Year” and “Top 100” Clos Apalta wine.

Day 7: Santiago - San Pedro de Atacama
After breakfast, depart from your hotel by private transfer to Santiago airport for your flight to Calama - Upon arrival you will be met and transfer to the Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama - Overnight at San Pedro de Atacama Hotel.

The San Pedro de Atacama Hotel includes: Accommodations (double room), all meals, daily excursions with bilingual guides, open bar and use of the spa facilities (pools, sauna, steam bath and Jacuzzi).

At your leisure

Day 10: San Pedro de Atacama - Santiago
At leisure until your departure from your hotel in San Pedro and transfer to Calama airport - Upon arrival in Santiago airport you will met and transfer to the Atton El Bosque Hotel.

Day 11: Santiago
Free day in Santiago

Day 12: Santiago
Transfer to Santiago airport for return flight. End of the trip.
